Why Eighteen88?
In 1889 synthetic chemicals were used in perfumes for the first time and as a result all of us born in recent history haven’t spent even one day free from this growing list of toxins floating through the air we breathe into our lungs, transferred to our blood and carried to our organs.
1888 was the last year of natural perfumes.
In 2016 my body became so reactive to all things modern, especially fragrances. This condition has several names, but the one I use is “Multiple Chemical Sensitivity”. We moved to a home on 2 acres so that I could be farther from my neighbor’s laundry smells which were making me sick.
The importance of avoiding fragrances and chemicals can not be overstated for someone with multiple chemical sensitivity. The air we breathe must be clean for us to feel normal. Our food must also be clean so that we are not consuming chemicals.
I started a Facebook page called “Life with MCS” where I share my ridiculous thoughts and stories about living life like this. I continue to find it incredibly therapeutic, but more often than not I want to write more than I can cram into a Facebook post so this is where I’ll share those thoughts. Does anyone read blogs anymore? It’s okay if they don’t. I am writing and sharing for my own therapy. But if you find yourself here, welcome!
